Using a start.sh and the /restart command restarts the server, but not in pufferpanel.

I'm using pufferpanel to host a spigot minecraft server and I've been trying to use an autorestart plugin. To do so I need to use a start.sh script. I have one that can start the server from SSH, but when I type the /restart command (as opposed to the button) in the pufferpanel, it closes the server and restarts the server outside the panel, so I can't see anything running. I wanted to know if I messed something up or if there's anything I can do to fix this.
Thanks for any input!
