Server forcefully stopping without log info

  • My Spigot (Minecraft) server keeps on crashing with nothing in the latest.logs apart from [Scales] [WARNING] This server has been detected as crashed by the management daemon. Restarting now.... I don't know what is causing this so here I have attached the below logs from the Scales daemon ran in debug mode.

Is there any way to find out why the server is crashing and how to stop it?

  • To me, it looks like something is killing docker, and the server isn't necessarily crashing. Maybe docker got messed up somehow or you have low memory?

  • How would I check if it's low memory killing it? I allocated 512MB to the server and only I was logged on the Minecraft server. htop shows there being plenty of ram left since I have 8GB ram total and I only had my servers taking up 2GB of ram total. @zacharee

  • Is it a new server and has had this error the whole time, or have you been using it for a while, with symptoms just appearing recently?

  • @zacharee It's new, I only set up puffer yesterday on a fresh box.

  • Hmm. Maybe you should try purging everything and setting it up again, this time without using docker.

  • @zacharee Would not using docker have any disadvantages/advantages? I heard the Scales team wanted to put more emphasis on using docker.

  • They're getting rid of Scales in 1.0.0, so no, I don't think they care much :p.

If you are selling services or allowing other users to create/run servers, then you should be using docker so that one server cannot have access to any other server or your machine.

If this is just for your own server network, then you do not need docker.

Scales is in fact going away, but we are still going to be keeping the Docker support in the new daemon, so it's not actually "going away".
